UNITED CLOSING IN ON DOUBLE DEAL

Manchester United are looking to make a big statement in the transfer window as the club looks to bolster its squad.

According to reports from Portugal, the Red Devils are close to making a double swoop for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes and Benfica defender Ruben Dias.

It is reported that Man United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen on the duo as he looks to rebuild ahead of next season. Fernandes has been impressive this season notching 33 goals in all competitions for the Sporting.

Liverpool was rumoured to be interested in the player but latest reports reveal that Man United are the overwhelming favourites to sign the 24-year-old. Sporting are understood to have demanded a fee of around £70 million for his services.

Meanwhile,Benfica defender Ruben Dias has become the subject of a transfer bid from Manchester United according to reports from Portugal.

According to the report Solskjaer is a huge fan of the player and wants to sign the 21-year-old on a long-term deal.

Benficaare opened to selling as long as Man United can pay the full value on his buyout clause. Dias has a release clause of £52 million in his existing contract.

Manchester United would need to pay a premium fee of over £100 million for both players to move to Old Trafford in the summer.

English clubs tend to look towards the Portuguese League for new signings, particularly in the defence. Chelsea appears to have made the best deals in the past decade with transfers of Paulo Ferreira, Calvarho and Jose Bosingwa from Porto respectively.

Manchester United currently have a defender from the Portuguese league in the form of Victor Lindelof. Dias would be hoping to join such illustrious company in making the move to Old Trafford.
