CHELSEA BOSS IN FULLBACK DILEMMA

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard is said to be keen on integrating England youngster Reece James into the first team. The 21-year-old has been regarded as one of the top England talents in the past 12 months after a successful stint in Wigan.

Reece Daniels is the definition of a modern fullback able to attack as well as defend in equal proportion. However, looking at his competition, which is captain Cesar Azpilicueta, it becomes a difficult task.

The Spaniard has taken over the right-back post since the departure of Jose Bosingwa and BranislavIvanovic and has become the defacto leader of the team. He was a pivotal member of the three man defence that enjoyed success during the first season of Italian tactician Antonio Conte some seasons back.

The Spain international is regarded as Mr. Reliable by many due to his consistent performances for the club. However the past two seasons has seen a drop in form, which has seen many questions the future of the player.

Despite this, He still retains the support of a large section of Chelsea supporters who believe that the fullback can regain his form.

James so far has appeared in cameos due to the injury that he suffered in pre-season. However, he has looked lively when called upon by the England legend. Azpilicueta’s recent form has also meant that James may not get into the first team quickly as the 30-year-old has been part of the Chelsea squad that has won their last six matches.

From the looks of things, it appears that the succession is unlikely to occur soon as the Chelsea captain continues to fight for a spot in the team.

Chelsea fans will be hoping that the club are able to enjoy both players to the best of their abilities.
